My dermatologist has a great blog post on protecting yourself from the sun, bit.ly/kM4phs – including some non-sunscreen methods for keeping skin protected - and she likes Blue Lizard, too.

Seriously, ive been using blue lizard sensitive and the regular on my face for 4 years now. The amazing thing is that I'm 35 and have acne since I was in the fifth grade. I live here in Florida and decided I didn't want acne and brown spots together so what the heck. My acne has gone away from my use of birth control and I gunk this stuff on under my makeup and my skins clear. I still have super oily skin which has prevented wrinkles but my pores have never been clogged from blue lizard. Another thing, sweat proof or not, to get full benefit you are suppose to reapply every few hours or even less given how much you are sweating. I don't reapply because my makeup has sunblock and i dont want to have to reapply makeup everytime a sunscreen application is due so I just dab powdered concealer that has an SPF as well onto my problem spots. Works well all together. Yaz took away my acne but not my oilyness.

I want to know how the Sensitive version worked out. Did it sweat off? It's getting INCREDIBLY hot even though it's just spring. I have gotten NOTICEABLY tanner in just 3 days. I have been really wearing moisturizer with SPF. :/ Now, I really need to know a goooooooooooood body sunscreen and maybe even a sunblock.

Hi,

Blue Lizard is great! I get it from my derms office but am going to buying it in the store now...also...spray on versions of sunscreen are worthless, according to my derm.

Have a happy day everyone!

i use a sunscreen that contains no pore-clogging oil or fragrance, does not have a weird smell to it and is said to be gentle enough for sensitive skin. it has 10% zinc oxide and 5% titanium dioxide. it's from dhccare.com and it's called white sunscreen. i just thought i'd let everyone know about this one too in case they would be interested in a sunscreen for the face that has no oil and a high content of zinc oxide.

I didn't love it, because it was so thick and greasy. My daughter burned slightly after a few hours at the zoo wearing the baby version

Jeni,
Have you ever tried the Renee Rouleau sunscreen or any of their skincare products? They seem to have non pore clogging ingredients and I was wondering what your opinion on them was.
Thanks...

Kristina,
It's funny because I've never heard a single person mention Blue Lizard before. I just saw it at the store one day, and happened to read the ingredients. Unfortunately, I don't think they'll come out with a spray version. On the Blue Lizard website, they sort of mock spray sunscreens: http://www.crownlaboratories.com/bluelizard/why.html and say they just aren't as effective - "No, Blue Lizard doesn't come in a spray, gel or mousse. To do so would be to compromise the best formulated sunscreen on the planet and we just can't do that."

Marie,
Almost all zinc oxide sunscreens are "micronized" now so they go on relatively clear. However, most of them have a very slight white tint. On my light skin, I don't usually notice the white tint, but I see how it could be a problem for darker skin types. Yeah I would test out the Shiseido at the makeup counter. Most stores let you return products, so if you end up hating it, you should be able to get your money back. I always apply a light foundation over my sunscreen on my face, so if there is any white cast, it's invisible under the makeup.
