Benzophenone is an ingredient that should be avoided in any skincare product. It has very bad side effects for both the skin and health! Look for my upcoming ebook detailing toxic ingredients in cosmetics and personal care products for more.

I have hyperpigmentation on my face (have so for the last 5 years) and have spent loads of money and time trying to make it go away....one of the thinks doctors, dermas and naturapaths INSIST on is that I reaply sunblock every 2 hours and never be without it, so I have been on a rollercoaster ride of trying to find something that stays on, does not make me have more blackheads, is not oily, does not build up, does not sting my eyes, does not smell and finally THAT DOES NOT BURN (when i first put it on in the morning or later on when i sweat)....I have used deramtologist brands, beautician brands and drugstore/supermarket brands and the only thing that has even come close to filling most of the requirements is Invisible Zinc Tinted Daywear....http://www.ganehill.com.au/product/range.htm, so although my real wish is that i could just wear Invisible Zinc like a normal person and just reapply if going out in the sun, cuz i hate having stuff on my face all the time, I am SOOOO lucky to have found this product, it has absolutely changed my life .....and NO BURNING!!! Hope this helps someone as desperate as I was before finding the right one for me.

I always prefer physical sunscreens, and their formulations have come a long way in the past five years. In addition to causing sensitivity in a lot of people, chemical sun filters break down and lose efficacy as little as two hours after application!

I wish I'd read this before! I bought a Neutrogena sunscreen with helioplex this summer (I'm out all day at kids sports tournaments) and wore it all day. by the middle of the next night my eyes were swollen shut and my cheeks were swollen as well. so I was stuck with no sunscreen the next day. Never had this problem until just this past summer. Then someone recommended Solbar Zinc. I ordered it online and tried it at home (where I could wash it off quickly if things started burning!) and no problem.
Fast forward to now. I have used Olay Complete with spf 15 as a general face moisturizer for 4 years. love it. Last night I bought a new one as I was out. Packaging looked a bit different but the name was the same. And they showed a picture of the old bottle and said it was just a new look. Great I say! used it this morning and thought I was having hot flashes all day. and here I sit with swollen cheeks and burned skin! I checked ingredients and have finally figured out what it is.....Avobenzone! not in my old sunscreens, but in the Neutrogena helioplex that burned me this summer. and not in the old Olay recipe but added to the new! at least now I know and can avoid it! But try Solbar. google it -you'll love not feeling the burn.

I have had a problem with burning skin. I thought I just had super sensitive skin but I found out that I was actually allergic to Proactive and Neutrogena's Skin ID Acne Skin Regimen. What would happen is my skin would feel hot then after several uses, my skin would actually break/crack!

I also found out that I have surprisingly developed an allergy to Mac Makeup! When I wear the one of their foundation all day, by the end of the day my EYE's BURN. This wasn't the case 4 years ago when I used to use them. :o(

For sunscreens, I'm allergic to Coppertone for some weird reason, but the Neautrogena's faces work great for me. go figure!

(Thanks for a great topic!)

I only have trouble with sunscreen on my face. I've wondered if it reacts with sweat. Some are a lot worse than others but I've not found one that doesn't affect me. If I overspray bug spray and get some on my face it burns like crazy too. Bug spray also burns the skin around my neck. My face is the first thing to start sweating and I've always assumed the sweat reacted with the chemicals. Maybe I'm just allergic to them after all. Thanks for the informative article.

This morning when I got out of the shower, I rubbed body lotion (Bath and Body Works) on my back , and my back heated up, at first I thought maybe it was just a sensation, but it last for about a minute, that was so strange for me, but worth sharing.

neutrogena sensitive skin titanium dioxide sunscreen. It is a physical block and doesn't give me a chemical peel when I use it. It is very white so needs to be rubbed in really well. I have run with it on and no burning when I sweat!! I use bare minerals natural sunscreen powder over it and it reduces shine and gives me a little pigment over the whiteness of the physical block! I have super sensitive skin and both of these products are awesome!!! Non-comedogenic too! Do not smell and not greasy so perfect for daily use. Banana boat SPF 50 kids continuous spray sunscreen for when you don't care about smelling like sunscreen and I need sports or water proof protection!!
