If you’ve read my How To Prevent Cosmetic Acne post, you know that all sorts of skin care products and cosmetics may contain ingredients that clog pores, which then cause acne. Whenever I buy a new product, I always check the ingredients, and make sure none of the first ten ingredients are on my list. Recently a friend of mine gave me BeneFit High Beamwhich is a great face highlighter that you can use on your browbones, cheeks, or anywhere you want a bit of a glow. You can also mix it with your foundation to give your face an all-over glow.
I put the High Beam on last night and marveled at how great it looked. It gives a subtle pink/silver sheen to the areas on your face you wish to highlight. Then I remembered to check the ingredients, and was super sad that it contained several ingredients to avoid if you are acne-prone:( I could still use this on my browbones, since obviously I don’t get acne there, but there’s no way I’d use it on my cheeks or anywhere else. I will be on the lookout now for a face highlighter that is safe for acne-prone skin. The High Beam is great to use if you don’t get acne.
So my point is to check every single product you own if you do indeed have acne or are prone to getting it. And don’t use anything until you’ve read its ingredients. Even blush, and face powder can contain bad ingredients. Also check your concealer, eye cream, and every single other product you put on your face! The only thing I don’t check are mascara, eyeshadow, lipstick, and eyeliner.
Oh Benefit High Beam, I will miss you:( I’ll be giving it away to a lucky friend that doesn’t get acne. After a brief search, I’ve noticed the face highlighters from Nars, Lorac, and every other brand I could find at Sephora (except the Sephora brand luminizer, which I didn’t like it) are not safe for acne-prone skin. The search continues…

Hi, i don’t know much about which ingredients are good or bad for acne, but i was at a ‘FACES’ makeup demonstration (in ireland, but it’s a canadian brand i think) and the girl was recommending their Metaliglow, which she said isn’t oil based like high beam so you could use it on eyelids as a primer and as a highlighter etc. Not sure if this is any help but you could try it! :)
