I just recently put a disk out in my neck and have been taking hot hot showers. Well my neck and face and back just started to break out horribly. I didn't know what was going on. My doctor said that I had irritated the follicle in my skin and was causing the pores to open and then get clogged. He advised to take warm to cool showers and not use any soap and you would not belive the difference. Try it!

you should try neutrogena's body scrub. its my favourite, because it got rid of the breakouts on my chest and back - something I had always been self conscious about. I stopped using it for a while [I couldn't find the spare bottle I bought], and my body acne came back. they also have a wash you can use if you aren't fond of the scrub formula. I'm not aware of what's in there that could bring about an allergic reaction, but as a girl with chronically dry skin, this is pretty good for me, and doesn't dry out my skin.

good luck in your hunt!

My bf uses Dove and has the karatosis thing. I told him about it, and so he stopped using it and now the bumps are going away on his arms! However, now they are worse on his legs so who knows.

KP is a nightmare. I finally managed to get rid of mine this year (after about ten years of trying) with Origins Modern Friction scrub. I'm not 100% sure here, but I think it has some AHA-type ingredients which do the work - with some Cetaphil lotion slapped on top as soon as I'm out of the bath, my arms now look like they did back when I was a kid.

Hello Jeni,

Thank you for the informative post!

Regrading the comments by Christopher and Bionic Beauty, sometimes a shampoo can make my forehead a bit itchy after I rinse the shampoo off the hair. As you said, shampoos probably use more cleansing agents and can be potentially more drying than a face/bodywash. So I find that I have to be quite careful not to have shampoo running on my face...

WOW! Fantastic post! I'm so glad to know I'm not the only label reader out there. I've found that I have to avoid anything with the soybean oil and also the glycerin in the first few ingredients, otherwise my skin ends up all bumpy.

As for the shampoo comment by Christopher, I've found some shampoos can break out my arm skin just from their running down your body while I wash my hair. So now I read labels there too. Geesh.

if the usual body washes dry your skin out, try shower oils instead. Aveeno makes a pretty good one.

Well I wouldn't use shampoo on my body, so I don't think it would be a problem. I know some people do use shampoo as a body soap, but I think that's a bad idea because it will dry your skin out more than regular body wash. It probably wouldn't clog your pores, but if you are prone to acne, and use something that dries out your skin, that could possibly make the acne worse, since dry skin can make it hard for your pores to stay open.

Thanks for the heads up on the body wash. I wonder if shampoo can cause it too?
