Do you have a concealer or blush that you would recommend? My pores clog easily, but everything that I've tried that you have suggested has been great so far!!

Samantha,
I don't believe those are the same ingredients, even though they have similar names. The Neutrogena Healthy Skin pressed powder just changed its formulation, though, and I haven't tried the new version yet. The new one has Titanium Dioxide, and I'm not sure about what the other ingredients are. So at this time I can't say whether or not I would recommend the new version until I try it. I just bought Maybelline Dream Matte Powder, and that one doesn't clog pores, and it's a pretty good pressed powder.

hello!
i have a quick question. you said you use the neutrogena healthy skin pressed powder, but while i was comparing the ingredients to your list of ingredients to avoid... i saw that the very first ingredient in the makeup is octyldodecyl stearoyl stearate, which is similar to the one on the list named Octyl Stearate, which has a 5 rating on your list! do you know if those products are similar enough to wear the first one i mentioned would also be a five? i was just so shocked to see it as the FIRST ingredient in the makeup and then have such a high rating on your list. it worried me about using it because i'm suffering so badly from acne right now and i've been using that list as a reference guide (which has been such a big help!) so if you could help on whether the makeup is actually good to use or not, that'd be great. thank you so much! - samantha

Thanks Jeni for getting back to me. I think I found the culprit. I didn't think to check the ingredients on my AHA product...why should I right? After all it states on the back of the product that it's a "non-pore clogging" formula. Anyway I ran out of my Paula's Choice AHA liquid so as back up I started using this other AHA I had bought a few months back which is Neutrogena Acne Stree Control 3-in-1 Hydrating Acne Treatment. I noticed that the 2nd or 3rd ingredient is PEG-8. On your pore clogging ingredient list (which has become my Bible) you list PEG-8 Stearate as a pore clogger with a 3 rating. Are these two ingredients the same? If so, I will be shocked that Neutrogena could be so misleading. I have trusted many of their products in the past. Anyway thanks again for your feedback...

Jrzygrl,
It's probably the same ingredient. It comes in at #11 in the list of ingredients, so it's not in the Maybelline product in a very large quantity. There's always a chance that it's enough to cause a problem, but it seems pretty doubtful. You could look up the Maybelline makeup on makeupalley.com to see if anyone has issues with it clogging pores. When I first bought the makeup, I checked with makeupalley, and it got good reviews, and since there were no pore cloggers in the first 7-10 ingredients, I felt it was safe for acne prone skin. But it is true that I'm only one person, so unfortunately something that works great for me could be a problem for someone else.

I noticed that the Maybelline Pure Makeup contains C13-14 Isoparaffin. In your valuable list of pore clogging ingredients I see that you have Isoparaffin C13-16 listed as a 3. Are these two ingredients different or are they the same and this makeup just isn't clogging your pores but might have potential to clog pores? I'm trying to figure out one product at a time what might be causing my breakouts. Thanks...

btw...my 'everyday' eyeshadow is a hard candy quad that I'ved had since 2004!!! That stuff lasts forevvvvvver! Its more expensive than the maybelline eyeshadow from the drugstore, but if you think about it in terms of quality and how long it lasts...its far more economical than a drugstore brand.

Has anyone ever used Philosophy the present? Its a primer/clear foundation that is supposed to even out the skin tone. Since my acne is finally gone, I want to work on all the nasty red scars and pit marks. I'm looking in to either dermabrasion or some type of laser treatments, but they are expensive (a couple thousand dollars!) So, in the meantime, I'm looking for a quick makeup-fix.

The reviews at Makeup Alley were not too good on this product :(
