Philosophy Coconut Collection

philosophy coconut collectionIn the summer, nothing smells better to me than coconut suntan lotion mixed with the smell of the ocean or pool (yeah I’m weird and like the smell of chlorine). Now that I know more about sunscreen, I’ve learned to read ingredients and pick the products that are most effective in preventing sun damage. Unfortunately those sensible products don’t smell like coconuts!

Philosophy Coconut Body Butter
Luckily Philosophy has read my mind and come out with Coconut Body Butter! I couldn’t believe my luck when I spotted it at Sephora last week. They also have a Coconut Body Scrub, Coconut Lip Shine, and a Coconut Body Gel/Shampoo/Bubble Bath. The Philosophy Coconut Collection is only available at Sephora stores (or the website).

For a cheaper alternative, I’m thinking about being naughty and buying the coconut tanning lotion at the drugstore, and mixing it with my regular moisturizer. Then if I go in the sun, I’ll put my sensible sunscreen over it to have the best of both worlds!

I’ve been meaning to suggest coconut oil to you, and this post reminded me. There is evidence that suggests that cold-processed extra virgin coconut oil (almost always sold organic as well) is good for your skin and hair as well as to eat (the saturated fat issues are for processed coconut oil, not cold-processed). It is high in Lauric acid and lots of other good things. Since the oil is also anti-microbial, I’ve been using it at night over my night cream to “seal it in” and also putting it on when my skin gets irritated or looks like its break out. It seems to help, plus I smell yummy yummy. I also use jojoba oil, which you mentioned in a previous post. I am not prone to acne, and my skin is combination/dry, so it may not be the same for you, but I hope you don’t mind the suggestion. Thank you for your reviews!!

    Charlotte,
I’ve been eating coconut oil for the past year – putting it on toast, in oatmeal, etc. I started using it because it’s supposed to support your thyroid, and I heard it could possibly help with weight loss, and I love coconuts! I haven’t tried putting it on my hair yet. I did put it on my face, but I think I found it too greasy, or maybe I was afraid it would cause breakouts. I can’t quite remember. I will have to look into it more.
