Do you wake up with lines etched in your face from your pillow creating creases in your skin? While the creases eventually go away after an hour or so, I’ve heard that these constant creases night after night can permanently break down your skin’s collagen and elastin, and make wrinkles appear faster. Now I have no idea if this is true, but I do know I like to wake up without any lines on my face!
Satin Pillowcases
A few years ago I read that if you sleep on satin pillowcases, it prevents your hair from becoming more damaged and frizzy because you’re not creating friction as you roll around on your pillow all night. I’m not sure if I’ve seen a difference in my hair, but my skin looks great when I wake up in the morning now that I use a satin pillowcase! I’m usually crease-free! And if I find myself with muscle-created lines in my forehead (which are not caused by your pillow), I remind myself to wear Frownies on my forehead. Or, of course Botox will prevent those forehead creases for several months at a time.
The satin pillowcases I use are 100% polyester, and I got them at Wal-Mart a few years ago. They look great, even though they only cost $3 each! I just did an internet search and found that some expensive satin pillowcases are made of cotton. I haven’t tried these, but I would think the polyester ones are better since they are shinier and smoother. I’ve seen satin pillowcases at Bed, Bath & Beyond, and there are tons of internet sites that sell them. The only challenge is finding ones that match your bedding decor.

Thank you for educating people about the beauty benefits of satin pillowcases. I just turned 41 and in all my years I have pretty much slept on my tummy so I have inevitably woken every morning looking like scarface. There is nothing wrong with my skin so I don’t think that these pillow creases have anything to do with aging

Great article. I got a set of satin pillowcases about a year and a half ago and my hair and skin have never looked or felt better. I had a problem with my hair drying out causing the “frizzys” and I had creases in my face when i woke up in the morning. I bought a set from atouchofsatin.com and I’m so pleased. They are a little pricey but they have many prints and patterns and I actually found a set that matched my decor and color scheme perfectly. I highly recommend them. Kepp up the good work! Thanks!

Thank you for the stores where you found satin pillowcases. I have just found out through reading a new magazine — Best You — that my frizzes can be reduced by sleeping on a satin pillowcase.
Also, thank you for distinguishing between the products used to make satin.

Thanks sunnydays for your recommendation. I went to A Touch Of Satin, as you suggested and they did have a lot of satin pillowcases to choose from. My Mom always told me to sleep on a satin pillowcase to help avoid pillow wrinkles. She did and her skin looked so smooth her whole life. My hairdresser says that during the night your face gets caught on a cotton pillowcase and you get those pillow creases on your face in the morning. Cotton naturally absorbs the moisture from your skin and your hair. Moisture that your skin and hair need to be healthy.
I bought two sets from them and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve noticed a difference in my face and hair. I no longer wake up with the pillow lines around my eyes and my cheeks. My hair is also much healthier.
